What’s Included in the Vaping Dangers Kit

Students using the Vaping Dangers Kit to learn about the health risks of vaping through interactive activities.

In this blog, we’ll show you what’s included and give tips on how to use the Vaping Dangers Event Kit.

The Vaping Dangers Kit is a great way to introduce engaging activities and hands-on learning to students to demonstrate the health impacts of vaping. But what is included in this kit? In this blog, we’ll cover the different activities included in the Vaping Dangers Kit and offer some helpful guidance to help educators get the most out of the activities.

Breath Battle

The first activity in the kit is the Breath Battle, where participants use straws to move activity pieces. New straws simulate healthy lungs, while crumpled, bent straws help participants understand the effect of vaping or e-cigarette use on the lungs. This activity can help participants understand the impact on lung function and the dangers of damaged lungs. There are two ways to run this activity: participants race, one with healthy lungs, the other with simulated vaping lungs, or have participants try both to feel the difference.

To further learning opportunities, ask participants about how they felt during the activity. Did they feel more successful with one straw compared to the other? How much different was one straw compared to the other? Try to facilitate conversation around what the participants felt and encourage conversations around the activity.

Vape Risk-Taking Game

This activity is simulated by removing blocks from a tower. Participants draw cards highlighting the health risks of vaping, like heart disease, addiction, mental health, and lung damage, then remove the corresponding block from the tower structure. Eventually, these compounding health risks will make the tower fall. This engaging activity can help participants see the vast number of health risks that come with vaping or e-cigarette use.

In conjunction with interactive and hands-on learning, encourage conversation among participants about what they’ve learned. Ask whether there were any health risks the participants knew about, any they were surprised by, and be sure to include data and statistics on health risks from credible sources like the CDC.

“No Thanks” Memory Challenge

This is a fun, engaging matching activity for participants to practice saying no in a safe and encouraging space. This activity incorporates matching by having players pair up scenarios with effective responses. This hands-on learning can help participants, especially students, practice saying no in a controlled environment. It can also help them craft a response ahead of time so they feel more prepared and empowered in the future.

After completing this activity, you can have students brainstorm other scenarios and craft new responses and ways to say no. Having students act out these scenarios is a great way to help them feel confident in their answer and practice in front of others.

Dicey Decisions

This engaging challenge can help participants understand how addiction, like an addiction to nicotine in vape products, can impact decision-making skills, focus, and concentration. This activity has individuals complete a puzzle, then try it again, but under simulated impairment conditions. The difference can give participants a clear understanding of decreased cognitive performance during impairment.

Encourage participants to discuss what they felt, if they experienced any difficulty performing the activity while under simulated impairment, and what other activities they think would be difficult while impaired. Pair the activities with information about the long-term effects and health risks associated with impairment.

These interactive activities can help participants, whether students, parents, or community members, understand the health risks associated with vaping firsthand. These engaging activities help reinforce learning and create valuable opportunities for further discussion around vaping dangers and making safer choices. Ready to learn more about vaping products?
