Plan My Ride Provides Online Safety Training for Young Drivers

Verona, Wisc… Innocorp, creator of the widely used Fatal Vision® Alcohol Impairment Simulation Goggles®, has become the exclusive distributor of a web-based training program for young drivers called Plan My Ride®, developed by iRT. The program provides organizations with the ability to deliver an impaired driving program remotely.

In times of pandemic and widespread school closures, hands-on training in driver impairment and safety can be next to impossible for educators to provide. The Plan My Ride safety program fills that gap. As a web-based program, Plan My Ride is easily accessible and used by both instructors and students, and can be used with a video conferencing platform to gather participants for instructor-led discussions and activities.

The virtual traffic safety program has the look, feel, tone, and content students can relate to since it uses science-based behavior-change theory to foster positive change. It is self-paced, allowing individual students the time they need to learn. While Plan My Ride informs students about impaired driving, it doesn’t stop there. It also interacts with students, giving them tangible skills to prevent real-life traffic crashes. Instructors can also use Plan My Ride with a group of students in a virtual classroom setting via video conferencing.

Plan My Ride has been proven in test groups to change knowledge, beliefs, and attitudes about impaired driving, perceived norms, self-efficacy, and behavioral intentions to avoid impaired driving. iRT, a North Carolina behavioral research company, developed and tested Plan My Ride.

Innocorp develops and manufactures impairment education and awareness products, including Fatal Vision® Alcohol Impairment Simulation Goggles, SIDNE®, and intoxiclock®. Since its inception almost 20 years ago, the Verona, Wisc.-based company has supported safety education programs like those in police departments, post-secondary schools, high schools, the military, and many civic and community organizations in more than 100 countries.

Innocorp is the pioneering developer of Fatal Vision® Goggles and other hands-on impairment-awareness tools used globally by law enforcement, educators, and safety professionals.
