One of the best ways to keep students interested and help them remember what they learn is to use hands-on activities. Fatal Vision has a variety of vaping prevention activities for students that are designed for hands-on learning environments. Let’s take a look at a few of these activities and the benefits, and how educators can use these tools for impactful learning.

 

Classroom Vaping Prevention Activities

Incorporating hands-on learning opportunities in the classroom can be a smart way to increase student attention, help increase learning and retention, and encourage open discussion. Fatal Vision offers two vaping prevention activity kits for educators to use in a classroom or community room setting. The Vaping Dangers Event Kit and the Vaping Dangers Program Kit both include hands-on, interactive activities for students to learn about the dangers of vaping.

 

Vaping Prevention Activities

These hands-on vaping prevention activities are designed to help students experience the serious health risks associated with vaping. Each activity addresses different aspects of how vaping impacts the body, decision-making, and daily life.

 

Breath Battle is a hands-on activity that demonstrates the impact of vaping on lung capacity in a tangible, memorable way. Students use compostable straws to move game pieces across game mats representing healthy and unhealthy lungs, simulating how reduced lung capacity affects physical performance. Research has shown that vaping can lead to reduced lung function, with users experiencing difficulty breathing during physical activities due to airway obstruction and inflammation caused by aerosols and fine particles. This activity provides a powerful learning opportunity that helps students understand that while vaping may seem harmless, it directly compromises their ability to breathe effectively.

 

Vape Risks engages up to 8 students in an interactive experience where they draw cards highlighting various health risks associated with vaping, including lung damage, addiction, and mental health issues. As players remove blocks from a stack that eventually collapses, they witness a powerful metaphor for how vaping’s cumulative effects can lead to serious health consequences. This activity effectively shows how each time someone vapes it adds risk, much like removing another block from a precarious tower. The game educates students about the wide range of health impacts, from immediate effects like increased heart rate and respiratory irritation to long-term consequences such as EVALI, cardiovascular disease, and nicotine addiction.

 

No Thanks! Memory Challenge is an engaging memory activity that helps students practice refusal skills in a fun, low-pressure environment. This activity teaches students how to confidently say no to vaping while building their capacity to remember and apply these refusal strategies in real-world situations. The memory game format makes learning these critical social skills engaging and repeatable, helping to reinforce positive responses to peer pressure. By incorporating these skills into a memory challenge, students develop both the cognitive awareness of healthy choices and the social competence to act on those choices. This activity is helpful because it gives students practice handling situations where vaping might come up. When students have practiced and internalized multiple ways to say no, they’re more likely to resist in real situations.

 

Dicey Decisions demonstrates how addiction can hijack decision-making and impact daily life in profound ways. This activity uses gameplay to illustrate how nicotine addiction, which develops quickly in adolescents, can take control of choices that once felt voluntary. Through the Dicey Decisions activity, students experience firsthand how addiction creates a cycle where decisions become increasingly driven by cravings rather than personal values or goals. This activity helps students understand that what may start as an occasional choice can rapidly evolve into a compulsive behavior that affects school performance, relationships, athletic ability, and overall well-being. By illustrating the progressive nature of addiction through gameplay, students gain insight into why prevention is so much easier than quitting once addiction has taken hold. This activity is particularly powerful in helping students recognize that vaping isn’t just a casual habit they can easily stop.

 

These vaping prevention activities work together to create a hands-on experience that fits easily into health lessons and prevention programs. Instead of just hearing about the risks, students see, discuss, and interact with the information.
