The Fatal Vision Opioid Campaign Kit is a complete set of tools designed to simulate the acute impairments caused by opioid use. It helps participants understand the risks and consequences of opioid addiction by illustrating how these impairments can disrupt daily life and driving abilities.
How It Works: This kit includes goggles, weights, and interactive activities that replicate impairments such as divided attention failure, nodding off, reduced contrast sensitivity, and heaviness or lethargy.
The Fatal Vision Opioid Goggles are controlled via Bluetooth through a mobile app on your smartphone. First, participants perform a baseline activity to establish unimpaired performance. Then, using the goggles, weights, and accessories, they repeat the activity to experience the effects of acute opioid impairment. Instructors can choose from several simulation modes to demonstrate:
- Divided Attention Failure: The goggles narrow the field of view, reducing situational awareness and response to surroundings.
- Nodding Out: The goggles intermittently blackout, mimicking the nodding off often associated with opioid use.
- Contrast Sensitivity Impairment: A special film reduces peripheral vision, making it difficult to detect contrasts in the environment.
- Heaviness in the Extremities: Wrist weights simulate sluggish movement and lack of coordination, replicating physical effects.
