What is S.U.M. · I+ · Cup®
The S.U.M.•I+•Cup® (Standard Unit of Measure) is an educational tool consisting of a large and small measuring beaker, stemware, and pitcher designed to allow adults, 21 years of age and older, to pour and measure a volume of liquid and determine the number of standard drink units represented by the liquid for various types of popular alcohol beverages. For example, a 12 oz. 5% beer, a 6 oz. glass of 10% wine, and 1.5 oz. of 80 proof spirits all have the same amount of alcohol and are all equal to one standard sized drink as defined by US standards.
Knowing what constitutes a standard sized drink is important in knowing what effect consuming these drinks will have on an individual’s Blood Alcohol Concentration (B.A.C.). S.U.M.•I+•Cup® delivers the lesson when a program participant is asked to pour what they believe is a typical serving of their preferred alcohol beverage into a provided beverage glass. That amount of liquid is then poured into The S.U.M.•I+•Cup®. The S.U.M.•I+•Cup® shows the number of standard drink units poured by the participant for various types of alcohol beverages.
