Intoxicheck™ - What Is It?
After a night of drinking, many people may underestimate how buzzed they really are. There are many applications that will estimate your blood alcohol concentration (B.A.C.) when you enter your body weight, gender, type of drink and number of drinks consumed over a period of time. The challenge with using these types of applications is accurately estimating your number of drinks because drinks can vary in size. Another challenge is really knowing how much alcohol the bartender is using in making your drinks. Some bartenders may make drinks much stronger than you might expect. Underestimating these numbers may result in you significantly underestimating your impairment level.
Intoxicheck™ is a new approach in helping you see how buzzed you really are. Intoxicheck uses a research-based approach to give you a more accurate assessment of your impairment level. By taking a series of reaction, judgment and memory challenges before you start drinking, you establish a baseline of sober performance that you can compare to your performance after drinking on those same challenges. In actual field tests of Intoxicheck under controlled conditions, Intoxicheck provided a reasonably accurate assessment of a person’s impairment level. The results Intoxicheck gives you may prove invaluable in helping you make better choices.

Intoxicheck™ - How It Works
Intoxicheck™ is a self-administered series of 6 challenges that helps a person to have a better estimation of their impairment level which should lead to better choices. Never choose to drive after drinking, as even small amounts of alcohol can have a significant impact on an individual’s driving ability.
- Establish an unimpaired baseline that measures multiple aspects of cognitive functioning, including: reaction time, dexterity, memory, and judgment.
- While consuming alcohol, perform the selected cognitive tests.
- Intoxicheck will compare your impaired results to your pre-established baseline and provide you with an assessment of your current state.
After each assessment the user is provided with an evaluation of their current impaired state.
Intoxicheck™ - Why it works
Intoxicheck™ is a scientifically validated, computerized impairment evaluation system. Research conducted in 1994 found a correlation between specific computer-based memory, judgment and reaction tests to Standard Field Sobriety tests typically conducted by law enforcement to determine a person’s degree of impairment. Intoxicheck has adapted those tests to run as an iPhone app. Intoxicheck begins as a 10 to 15 minute test to establish your baseline of sober performance.
Given inherent differences in a person’s reaction to alcohol, it is important to establish a before and after drinking assessment for each individual. This assessment of pre-drinking baseline testing compared to post-drinking reaction, judgment, and memory performance can help a person objectively evaluate their condition.
