What is Fatal Vision®?
Fatal Vision® Impairment Goggles are an internationally popular hands-on prevention tool used to educate people of all ages about the consequences alcohol misuse and abuse. Fatal Vision® Goggles use a special lens technology that allows the wearer to experience a realistic simulation of impairment. Participants experience how alcohol impairs a person’s balance, vision, reaction time, and judgment. Simple activities with the Fatal Vision® Goggles, such as walking a line “heel-to-toe”, standing on one leg, reaching out to grab a set of car keys, or tossing a ball, become effective teaching moments as the participant experiences how susceptible they are to potentially dangerous consequences.
The Experience:
- Participants will perform simple sobriety tests without the goggles to establish a sober baseline.
- The exercise is then repeated while wearing the Fatal Vision® Goggles. Participants typically struggle to maintain their balance, equilibrium, reaction time, targeting and will exhibit behaviors similar to an individual under the influence of alcohol.
- Participants gain an understanding of the impact of alcohol on their ability to function. The experience can be used to support lessons about impaired driving, high risk or binge drinking, underage drinking or any initiative dealing with the misuse and abuse of alcohol.

Statement of Impairment
Fatal Vision® is an evidenced-based training tool used to vividly demonstrate the concept of impairment and the dangers of alcohol and other drug misuse and abuse. Its purpose is to provide a means to influence attitudes and behaviors and educate people of all ages and across all languages. Fatal Vision’s purpose is not to duplicate impairment caused by a specific level of alcohol or drug ingested by a human. Alcohol and other drug impairment is the result of the alcohol or other drugs’ effect on the brain. The Fatal Vision® Goggles distort vision and cause reactions that mimic behaviors exhibited by someone under the influence of alcohol and other drugs.
Thousands of law enforcement personnel around the world use the Fatal Vision® Goggles in community outreach and prevention programs. Many of these professionals use B.A.C. (Blood Alcohol Concentration) to describe the level of impairment exhibited by someone wearing Fatal Vision® Goggles. It was their opinion that the behaviors exhibited by someone wearing the Silver Label Fatal Vision® Goggle were similar to behaviors exhibited by someone with a B.A.C. of .17 to .20. The general opinion shared by many of these professionals is that the Silver Label Fatal Vision® Goggle simulates a high level of impairment, while the Bronze Label Goggle simulates a moderate level of impairment. Innocorp, Ltd. has adopted the use of B.A.C. to describe the impairing effect produced by the various levels of Fatal Vision® Goggles.

What is the difference between the clear and shaded lens?
Fatal Vision® Goggles are available with either a clear or shaded lens to simulate daytime or nighttime impairment.
Is it a good idea to use impairment goggles with a golf cart to simulate impaired driving?
Innocorp, Ltd. does not recommend the use of impairment goggles with any motorized vehicle. This activity is potentially dangerous and could result in injury.
“It’s not really like this when you’re impaired” right?
When a person is drinking alcohol, both their mind and body become impaired. This impairment affects their cognitive or mental state and ability to make rational choices. The Fatal Vision® Goggles impair an individual’s physical abilities such as balance and equilibrium, reaction time, judgment and targeting. Because Fatal Vision® Goggles do not impair a person’s cognitive state, it is sometimes difficult for those wearing the goggles to comprehend that they truly behave in this way as they perform a series of simple sobriety tests. The lesson is understood by simply reminding the participant that they are experiencing impairment with a sober mind.
How does the White Label Goggle support my prevention message when it simulates such a low Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) impairment level?
The White Label Goggle simulates an estimated BAC of .05 or less and is one of our most popular impairment levels. With national focus of bringing attention to the dangers of “buzzed” driving, the White Label delivers a clear lesson about how impairment begins with the first drink. This goggle also provides a sobering lesson when used to address the issues of metabolization and that individuals may still be impaired the morning after consuming alcohol and not even realize it.
What impairment level does the Blue Label Goggle simulate?
The Blue Label Goggle provides a double vision and extreme blurriness. Due to the extreme visual impairment it provides, customers use the Blue Label Goggle as the preferred method for simulating impairment from substances other than alcohol.
