What is Fatal Reaction®?
Fatal Reaction® provides a hands-on and engaging activity that demonstrates dramatically the dangers of distracted and impaired driving. Any non-driving related activity that takes our eyes and attention off the road are dangerous and potentially deadly. Add alcohol into the scenario and the chances for a crash increase significantly. The lesson begins when your participant attempts to accomplish two simultaneous activities while wearing Fatal Reaction® and playing Distract-A-Match®. One task is verbal, counting backwards from 100, and the second task is a simple physical activity, quickly putting a puzzle together. Soon after your participant begins the activity, you activate the Fatal Reaction® unit using a small remote control. When the unit is activated, your participant hears their own voice in a delayed and distorted manner. With this distraction, your participant experiences difficulties in speaking, thinking clearly and performing the given tasks. The typical participant attempts to compensate for this distraction by focusing solely on one of the tasks, verbal or physical, while their performance on the ignored task is seriously degraded.
The lesson is as simple as it is clear—if distraction can adversely affect our ability to perform simple tasks like counting backwards and playing Distract-a-Match, it will adversely affect our ability to perform more involved tasks like driving a car safely. Alcohol further reduces our ability to function normally, thus significantly decreasing a person’s capacity for operating a motor vehicle safely.
